15 Shocking Celebrities With A Criminal Past

Published on 10/28/2019

No one can escape the law, folks, not even celebrities. And it’s always so much more damaging to their reputation when they cross a serious line and end up in the slammer, makes us normal folk feel a lot better about our boring lives. Take a look at these celebrities who have a criminal past that no attorney could even save them from.

Matthew Broderick

I can only hope that Matthew Broderick was up front with his gorgeous and talented wife, Sarah Jessica Parker, about his criminal past. There’s no forgiving a secret like that or maybe she read it all over the headlines, who knows? Back in 1987, Broderick ended up driving his BMW into the wrong lane. Which tragically killed Anna Gallagher, 28, and her mother, Margaret Dorothy, 63. Broderick however suffered a concussion, fractured ribs and leg and a collapsed lung. While his then girlfriend, Grey, suffered severe whiplash. Broderick was charged with careless driving and paid a fine of $175. In my opinion he got off easy, perhaps due to his over-priced lawyer? Probably.

Will Smith

It’s a bit painful to include Will Smith on this list but alas, here we are. In 1989, Will along with a group of friends attacked a record promoter, they beat him so bad that he became blind in one eye. Will spent just one night in jail but has gone on to say that experience was life changing and one that plagues him every day.

Vanilla Ice

Personally, a man who beats his wife isn’t much of a man and Vanilla Ice is no exception. He was apprehended by the police twice for assaulting his wife, Laura Giaritta. The first time he assaulted her was in 2004 and then again four years later. In 2008, he was charged with domestic battery after his wife called the police and said that he had attacked her for, “going out to buy a bedroom set in front of my daughter.” The case was later dropped, funny what money can buy, a good lawyer in this case.

Don King

Don King is the man behind the successful promotions of boxing legends Muhammed Ali, Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson, George Foreman, and countless more. Although back in 1966 when King was convicted of manslaughter, that made the headlines far more. King had stomped Sam Garret to death for not paying a gambling debt and served just three and a half years in prison. Absolute madness, that’s a crime all by itself. And get this? The street where King killed Garrett in Cleveland is being named after him. The insanity!! We just don’t get it.

Charlie Sheen

This celeb shouldn’t really come as a shock as just about everyone is aware of his domestic abuse charge. Back in 2009, Sheen pinned his third wife, Brooke Mueller, to the floor and proceeded to threaten to kill her with a knife. Sheen would go on to plead guilty to a misdemeanor. Sheen’s punishment was being sentenced to 30 days in a drug rehab center, 30 days probation, and 36 hours of anger management. Could someone get a brain injury attorney to look over this case because I think everyone has lost their minds following that incident.

Laura Bush

Me-oh-my, a former first lady makes this criminal list, scandalous. Way back in 1963, Mrs. Bush ran a stop sign and collided with another car which led to the death of Michael Dutton Douglas, who was only 17 years old. However, Mrs. Bush suffered from just some minor injuries. After the accident, the former first lady said, “It was a very tragic accident that deeply affected the families and was very painful for all involved, including the community at large.”

Mark Wahlberg

I adore Mark Wahlberg! He’s starred in some kick a** films, is hilarious, and is a great family man. With that being said, he’s actually had quite the number of run-ins with the Boston Police Department back when he was just a teenager. One of his more atrocious crimes was racially motivated. At just 16 years of age, Mark attacked a middle aged Vietnamese man with a wooden stick and later that same day, he attacked another Vietnamese man and blinded him in one eye as a result. Initially he was sentenced to two years behind bars but ended up serving only 45 days. You think even make then he had a fancy attorney?

R. Kelly

Normally, I would start off by listing the celebs credentials or I would say something witty but in this instance, no chance. In 1996, Tiffany Hawkins sued R. Kelly for having sexual relations with her when she was only 15 years old and he was 24 at the time. Shortly after, a horrific video came to light which showed him having sex with an underage girl and he even urinated on her. He was charged with 14 counts of child pornography and following his trial, he was found not guilty on all 14 counts, if he had been convicted, he would have served 15 years. I guess he had the worlds most amazing attorney to get away with such an inhumane and cruel act.

Danny Trejo

Danny Trejo has always been up front with his criminal past but that hasn’t stopped him from starring in loads of Hollywood films like Heat, Con Air, and Desperado. Trejo actually spent 11 years in correctional facilities due to his involvement in robbery and drug abuse.

OJ Simpson

The name OJ Simpson used to bring pleasant memories of the 49ers star but now all the name does is make people question if he actually murdered his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend, Ron Goldman. Yes, he was found innocent of the murder charges but still, the whole thing is shady AF. Fast forward a few years and OJ’s been sentenced to 33 years of jail time for stealing sports memorabilia. Smooth.

Christian Slater

Love him or hate him, Christian Slater is always in the news and it’s never for the right reasons. His rap sheet is a bit lengthy so bare with us a moment. In 1989, he was charged with drunk driving and assault. In 1994, he actually attempted to board a commercial airliner with a loaded gun in his luggage. Later in 1994, he assaulted his then-girlfriend, Michelle Jonas, and he also assaulted a police officer. In 2005, he was apprehended by police officers after he was found sexually assaulting a woman on the street. Just run his name in a criminal record checks and you’ll see what we mean.

Tim Allen

I don’t know a single person who doesn’t love Tim Allen but did you know that before he became a mega superstar, he actually had serious financial problems that he resorted to selling drugs. In 1978, he was apprehended by police and was arrested for possession a a staggering 1.4 pounds of cocaine. Originally, he was sent to a Minnesota correctional facility to serve three to seven years for his offense but due to his cooperation with officials, he served just two years and four months.

Khloe Kardashian

The Kardashian name is pure gold right now, whether or not you like it, the whole family is crazy famous. However in 2007, Khloe was actually apprehended for drunk driving and the real cherry on top was that she violated probation for the stupidest reason. She actually failed to enroll in alcohol education class and never completed roadside cleanup duty which was a part of her community service. So police scooped her up and sentenced her to 30 days in the slammer, however due to overcrowding, she served just a mere three hours. No attorney needed to get her out of that mess.

Phil Spector

Phil Spector had the incredible honor of being a record producer who worked with John Lennon, George Harrison, and the Ramones. However in 2000, Spector was battling it out in two trials for counts of murder and second-degree murder. He was under investigation for the role he played in the murder of Lana Clarkson. In 2009, Spector was convicted of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 19 years in prison.

Shelley Malil

This 40 Year Virgin star is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Shelley Malil is currently serving a life sentence at the California Ironwood State Prison in Riverside County. What for, you’re probably wondering? For the absolute atrocious act of stabbing his ex-girlfriend 23 times. There was no chance his attorney was going to get him off.

Jay-Z

That’s right, Beyonce’s husband and father to Blue Ivy has a criminal past. When Jay-Z was just 12 years old, he fired shots at his older brother, Eric, and caught him in the shoulder. Later when he cemented his rapping career, he instilled the following lyric about the incident, “Saw the devil in your eyes/ High off more than weed, confused, I just closed my young eyes and squeezed.” Later on in adulthood, in 1999, Jay-Z was sentenced to three years probation after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. He was charged with stabbing the music producer, Lance “Un” Rivera, just outside of a popular nightclub.

Mike Tyson

Hands down, Tyson is one of the most legendary boxers out there and he’s even starred in a few Hollywood films, like The Hangover. Although Tyson also has a history of being accused of armed robbery, drug possession and assault. In 1991, Tyson was charged with raping 18 year old, Desiree Washington in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tyson was sentenced to six years in prison and four years probation but he ended up serving just three years instead.
