See What The Beatles’ Kids Are Doing These Days

Published on 12/21/2021

Yes, we can all lay claim to being “children of the Beatles.” as the saying goes. At the end of the day, nearly everyone grew up listening to the Beatles’ songs, and at the very least some of us feel ourselves to be inspired by them. However, how many of us would claim to be their biological children if asked? Neither of us is a good fit. Although there are no confirmed direct descendants of The Beatles, there are 16 persons who can lay claim to being so.

What Happened To The Beatles’ Children?

The majority of their offspring are biological, but a handful was adopted or are stepchildren. So not only do you see the unmistakable resemblance between the sons and daughters and their fathers in the list below, but you can also see that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Many of these Beatles descendants – some even children, some adults – are accomplished musicians in their own right.

John Charles Julian Lennon

Parents: John Lennon and Cynthia Lennon

Born: April 8, 1963

When Julian was born, he was the first to be born, and he arrived on the scene only when the Beatles became popular. As a child, he served as the inspiration for three major Beatles songs: John Lennon’s “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” and “Good Night,” as well as Paul McCartney’s “Hey Jude,” which was written to soothe Julian following his parents’ divorce. After John abandoned Cynthia in favor of Yoko, the father and son went through a period of divorce. Then, in the early 1970s, they were able to reconnect again. Julian’s artistic interests had grabbed John’s interest, and he decided to buy him a guitar and teach him the basics of playing. Following in his father’s footsteps, Julian finally became a successful businessman. In the years that followed, he made his income as a singer-songwriter as well as an actress and a director.

Julian’s first record, “Valotte,” was a major triumph in 1984, earning him two top ten songs and a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Julian’s second track, “Valotte,” was a smash hit in 1985, earning him a Grammy award for Best New Artist. His succeeding albums, on the other hand, were met with less enthusiasm. In 1991, Julian decided to take a vacation from the recording industry. In 2002, he published a new version of “When I’m Sixty-Four” which was over a decade after the original. It was in 2009 that he established the White Feather Foundation, an environmental or charitable organization named after a piece of advice he received from his father. In celebration of his father’s birth on the 70th anniversary of his birth in 2010, Julian presented a show of 35 photographs, including a selection of Beatles memorabilia, to mark his father’s birth. “Timeless: The Photography of Julian Lennon.” is the title of a photography exhibition featuring Julian Lennon’s work.

Zak Starkey

Parents: Ringo Starr and Maureen Cox

Born: September 13, 1965

Ringo Starr and Maureen Starkey welcomed their first child, Zak, in August of that year, following their marriage earlier in the year. In spite of his father’s best efforts to keep his son away from the increasingly stressful music industry, Zak couldn’t help but be attracted by the drum set that his father was playing. Because his godfather Keith Moon (of The Who) gave him a drum kit when he was eight years old, it’s hardly surprising. That the youngster was into drums and rock ‘n’ roll while growing up with a father and godfather who were like those two is no laughing matter. Since his parents parted in 1975, he has developed a strong interest in it. He was a member of the Icicle Works for a while, and then of his father’s All-Starr Party for a second time.

During the mid-90s, Zak gained his big break when he took over for his godfather on a television show. Fans of the Who and members of the band, on the other hand, thought he was a fantastic match for the group. A well-known rock star is a difficult character to cast, and finding someone to play him is not easy. As a result, Zak began collaborating with Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey on records and tour dates. In the years 2004 to 2009, he was the third drummer for the British rock band Oasis. As well as that, he looked after the sticks for Johnny Marr and the Healers. When Zak Welch married Sarah Menikides in 1985, they had a daughter named Tatia, who was the first Beatle grandchild (who is now also a musician).

Jason Starkey

Parents: Ringo Starr and Maureen Cox

Born: August 19, 1967

Almost two years after their marriage, Ringo and Maureen became parents to their second child, Jason. Even when he was younger, Jason maintained his status as the family’s secret rebel. When he was seven years old, his parents separated and divorced. Ringo was granted visiting rights with Maureen’s sons, while Maureen was awarded custody of each of her sons. Jason, like many other divorced children, began behaving inappropriately. He began to get himself into a lot of trouble and to run into legal problems as a result of his actions. In 1987, when he was 20 years old, he was charged with £125 in fines for attempting to rob a vehicle stereo. He was previously accused of cocaine use a couple of years ago.

Jason eventually put his delinquent past behind him and went on to form a number of independent rock bands. A drummer, Jason, like his older brother and father, grew up in a musical family. While growing up, he and his brother Zak worked on the drums for bands such as Buddy Curtis and the Grasshoppers, The People’s Friend, Empire Of SPONGE, and even Musty Jack Sponge and the Exploding Nudists in the mid-’80s. Jason, on the other hand, appears to be unconcerned in his family’s history for no apparent reason at all. “Being Ringo Starr’s son is the worst thing that has ever happened to me,” says the musician. “It’s a complete agony.” he once said. Despite this, Jason developed an interest in the music industry and worked as a tour manager and drummer for several bands. He’s been married to Flora Evans, a fashion designer, since 2010, and the two of them have three sons.

Mary Anna McCartney

Parents: Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney

Born: August 28, 1969

When Paul and Linda tied the knot in 1969, they were both expecting their first child, Mary. You may remember her as the small child who appeared on the back cover of Paul’s debut solo album, ‘McCartney,’ and who famously peered out from behind Paul’s jacket (which included the photo taken by her mother). Mary is the oldest of Paul and Linda’s three biological children. Photojournalism was something that Mary and her mother were both interested in. She went on to establish herself as a gifted photographer and journalist. She focuses on fashion and portrait photography as her primary areas of expertise. In 2001, she directed the television documentary ‘Wingspan,’ which was about her parents’ band. In the film, she also played the role of her father’s interviewer.

She is currently in charge of the photo department at MPL Communications, the company where her father works. In addition to her demanding profession, Mary enjoys giving back to the community in her spare time. She is active with a variety of charitable organizations. In 1998, she tied the knot with Alistair Donald, a director and former television executive. The birth of her father’s first grandchild, Arthur Donald, the oldest of his eight grandkids, in 1999 marked her father’s first grandchild and the birth of her first grandchild. Eliot Donald, Mary’s younger brother, was born in 2002, making him her second sibling. In 2005, the couple decided to part ways. In 2010, she tied the knot with agent Simon Aboud. She and Aboud have two sons, who are the love of their lives.

Lee Parkin Starkey

Parents: Ringo Starr and Maureen Cox

Born: November 11, 1970

Lee arrived at a very awkward time. Her parents’ marriage was in serious difficulties shortly after the Beatles split in 1970, when she was a child. Ringo and Maureen, on the other hand, will have to wait five years before they can file for divorce. Lee first came to public attention in 1989, when she appeared alongside her father in an Oldsmobile commercial. Planet Alice, a Los Angeles store featuring fashionable 1960s fashions, was created around the same time as Lee’s company. The company, however, eventually folded, and Lee went on to work as a fashion designer and makeup artist.

Unfortunately, Lee was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1995, a year after her mother died of leukemia at the age of 48 in the previous year. She was required to undergo surgery as well as radiation treatment. Unfortunately, the tumor returned in 2001, and she was forced to go through the same treatment process as before. Fortunately, Lee’s health has improved significantly since then. She will frequently attend her brothers’ concerts as well as those of Stella McCartney (who will be discussed later). Lee has been in a relationship with Kasabian/Beady Eye bassist Jay Mehler for quite a while now. Lee gave birth to triplets in 2009, marking the first time that the Beatles family had ever had triplets. She and her relatives live in London, which is hardly surprising given her background.

Born: September 13, 1971

Stella’s parents and their music group, Wings, took her on a world tour when she was a child (and her siblings). According to Paul, the name of the group was prompted by Stella’s rough delivery. Having prayed for Mary to be placed “on the wings of an angel.” Paul waited outside the surgery center. As a result, she was born through an emergency C-section. Because Stella is the most well-known of Paul and Linda’s daughters, it’s possible that this was a blessing in disguise for them. Throughout her career, she has established herself as a leading personality in the fashion world. Her interest in fashion and the creation of garments began at an early age.

She was in charge of designing the clothing for all of the British Olympians competing in the 2012 Games. The following year, she was awarded the title of Officer of the Order of the British Empire in appreciation of her contributions to the design world. Stella isn’t afraid to get things going. She wore a blouse with the words “It’s About F–king Time.” on it when she attended her father’s induction ceremony at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The couple has four children together and are married to Alasdhair Willis, who works as a publisher.

Following the birth of his second kid, John decided to take a sabbatical from music in order to devote more time to his family. Sean had an impact on John, and it was as a result of this that he created the song “Beautiful Kid” The music was featured on John’s 1980 comeback album, “Double Fantasy,” which was recorded just a few months before he passed away. James Louis McCartney

Parents: Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney

Born: September 12, 1977

James McCartney was given his given name by his father, James Paul McCartney, in honor of him. His parents, Paul and Linda, have only one child, James, who has always had a passion for music. It is not also attributable to the fact that his father is present. What is the real cause for this? He recognized Marty McFly as he played the guitar in the iconic ‘Back to the Future’ sequence. Paul was quick to discover his son’s interest in the guitar and jumped in to equip him with a Stratocaster as a result. The instrument was previously owned by Carl Perkins. On a handful of his father’s solo recordings, James was able to contribute to the music on guitar and drums (such as “Flaming Pie” and “Driving Rain”).

After a few years, James made the decision to pursue a professional musical career. Following the release of a pair of pop-rock EPs, which were co-produced by Paul, James released his debut album, named “Me,” James, on the other hand, had managed to stir up a bit of a media frenzy a year before. The announcement in 2012 that he, Sean Lennon, Zak Starkey, and Dhani Harrison (the next member of the Beatles band) were forming a second-generation Beatles group upset the apple cart a little. What exactly is going on here? James suggested that a reincarnation of their Beatles fathers was not out of the question; however, not all of the sons agreed with James’ assertion. “I don’t believe it’s something Zak needs to do.” James stated emphatically. It’s possible that Jason would be interested in performing it. I’d be willing to take part if you’re interested. Sean seems to appreciate it, and Dhani appeared to be enjoying it as well. “I’d be delighted to lend a hand.”

George chose to name his son after the 6th and 7th notes on the Indian music scale in honor of his involvement with Indian philosophy and his pursuit of that philosophy. Who knows, he might have been destined to be a guitarist from the beginning. After his father, George Lynne, passed away in 2001, Dhani supported Jeff Lynne in finishing his father’s song, ‘Brainwashed,’ and as a result, he developed into a gifted musician himself. The following year, Dhani performed with an acoustic guitar at the “Concert for George” tribute concert. He was a member of a band that included included Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney as members. Following that, Dhani decided to strike out on his own a few of years ago.

As a sideman, he’s toured extensively with Eric Clapton, appeared on Wu-Tang Clan’s “The Heart Gently Weeps,” and has appeared on live with Pearl Jam numerous times. Dhani married Solveig “Sola” Karadottir in 2012, but the marriage lasted only a few years before the pair separated. They were never married and never had children as a couple. Dhani, in addition to his artistic endeavors, took part in the Beatles computer game, which was released in 2008. It’s fascinating to watch how the children of The Beatles have developed and pursued their own interests; after all, growing up knowing that you are the child of a member of the most influential band the world has ever known may be difficult! Having a child may completely transform a person’s life, as was the case for Eric Clapton, one of the Beatles’ closest friends and fellow musician. Look at what happened to his son and how much he changed as a result of his father’s actions and inactions.

What Happened To His Child

Conor Clapton, Clapton’s son, died on March 20, 1991, after falling from a 49-story apartment window in New York City. At the time of the incident, the child was only four years old. It’s natural that Clapton’s life – as well as the lives of his other family members – were turned completely upside down as a result of the tragic event. However, the actress finally confirmed a long-rumoured truth about Conor’s tragic demise, which has been circulating for some time.

What Happened To His Son

What Happened To His Child

Being A Child Without Parents

Although Clapton’s grief at Conor’s death was understandable, the fact that he was reared without a mother or father may have added to his pain. In 1944, Clapton’s father, Edward Fryer, a Canadian soldier, went out with Clapton’s mother, Pat Clapton, for a night of fun and relaxation. When Pat, on the other hand, was 15, she had no intention of becoming a mother because she was still too young. Clapton’s mother, you see, left the United States when he was a toddler to live with another man in Canada.

As a result of this, Clapton grew up believing that his grandmother Rose was his mother. And when Pat showed up, as she did on occasion, he mistook her for an older sister, leading him to believe she was. Clapton, on the other hand, was clearly troubled by his father’s absence, as seen by his song “My Father’s Eyes” which he dedicated to Fryer in 1988.

How He Became A Musician

What was it like for Clapton when he first started out as a musician? Even though Clapton was handed an acoustic guitar when he was 13 years old, it appears that he struggled to learn how to play it properly. Clapton didn’t begin practicing the guitar seriously until a few years after he received his first guitar. Initially, he also drew inspiration for his persistent playing from blues records. As soon as he mastered the guitar, Clapton was well on his way to becoming a household name.

He joined the Yardbirds in 1963, when he was only 18 years old, and remained with them until his death in 2003. Clapton established himself as a leading figure among the bluesy rockers who were enjoying considerable popularity at the time. This was despite the fact that the young musician’s proclivity for postponing engagements in order to repair broken guitar strings earned him the nickname “Slowhand” from the audience, which began a slow handclap in anticipation of his arrival.

His Bands

After departing the Yardbirds, the rocker went on to form John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. In the following years, Clapton formed Cream, a band that specialized in improvised blues and “arty pop,” which was followed by the release of Blind Faith in 1969 and a solo career that featured collaborations with Derek and the Dominoes. Clapton co-wrote the hit song “Layla.” while he was a member of this last ensemble.

By the late 1960s, however, Clapton had developed a friendship with George Harrison, the lead singer of the Beatles. During the Beatles’ 1968 album “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” Clapton contributed a guitar solo to the song “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” It was written by George Harrison. Soon after, Clapton appeared on Harrison’s debut solo album, an experience that the guitarist would have several times over the next few years.

How He Met Boyd

The link between Clapton and Harrison led to the meeting of Harrison’s first wife, Pattie Boyd, with whom he appeared to have developed a passionate passion. Clapton began visiting her sister Paula for a period of time in an attempt to appease her obvious lust for Paula. In “Layla,” Clapton’s emotional feelings for Boyd appear to have influenced the songwriting process, while Boyd first turned his back on him, culminating in disastrous consequences for the guitarist.

Finally, it is reported that the actor went into solitude for a few years, succumbing to his heroin and alcoholic habits, which would eventually manifest themselves as key components of his personal and professional life. Harrison organized a charity event in New York for Bangladesh in 1971, and it was at this concert that Clapton made his first recording and performed. The legendary guitarist is claimed to have fought to remain on his feet for his whole performance. However, in January 1973, Clapton returned to the stage, and it appears that preparing for the performance assisted him in his rehabilitation from addiction.

Clapton is said to have attempted to court Boyd again after he had left drugs, with greater success this time around. In 1974, Boyd filed for divorce from Harrison, and she later married Clapton in 1979 after settling down with him. While doing so, Clapton began recording his first songs, which included 1974’s “I Shot the Sheriff,” which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The musician, on the other hand, continued to imbibe. He also claimed to have consumed two to three bottles of vodka every day in the late 1960s, which was said to have taken a toll on his marriage as time passed. A 1999 interview with the Sunday Times in the United Kingdom revealed that Clapton admitted to physically beating Boyd during their time together. “I know that when I was a full-blown, practicing alcoholic, everyone used to walk around on eggshells around me,” he remarked.

New information about the man Clapton used to be was also revealed by the musician. “I was completely unconcerned about the welfare of other people,” he explained. An Affair With Yvonne Kelly

Clapton allegedly began an affair with Yvonne Kelly while still married to Boyd in 1984, while the couple was still together. Ruth, a daughter, was born in the early 1980s as a result of this situation. Although this was true, no one in the media or in the general public was aware of the child’s existence for the first few years of his life, until the child was ultimately discovered in 1991, when it was discovered.

Lory Del Santo

Clapton did perform a handful of shows in Milan, Italy, in October 1985, but they were short-lived. While in Italy, the guitarist met and allegedly fell in love with Lory Del Santo, an Italian woman, whom he met while on tour. They didn’t seem to care that he was married, and it appears that they began an affair with each other. Boyd’s heart was broken for a variety of reasons as a result of the pregnancy that resulted from this relationship.

Boyd Was Devastated

Boyd, as you may be aware, has been experiencing fertility troubles. Boyd and Clapton had even attempted to conceive a child through in vitro fertilization (IVF), but were unsuccessful. Boyd appeared to be going through miscarriage after miscarriage, and it was really distressing. Boyd was obviously distraught when Clapton informed her that Del Santo was expecting a kid of her own. “[She] felt] like [her] heart was about to disintegrate,” according to Clapton’s biographer Philip Norman.

A Lovely Child

Clapton, on the other hand, was of a completely different mind, according to Norman. When the child was born, Clapton believed it was “the one thing in [his] life that could bring good out of it,” according to his manager, Norman. Conor, as the young man would come to be known, was described as a cheerful, attractive young man with lovely blonde hair and cheerful, caring temperament.

Del Santo, on the other hand, is said to have been persuaded that Clapton did not want the child while she was pregnant with him. As Norman pointed out, a rock star’s interest in a woman seemed to decrease once he had captivated her attention. In the first trimester of her pregnancy, Del Santo allegedly informed Norman that one of Clapton’s managers had called her and requested that she kill the pregnancy.

Falling Apart

Norman went on to say that throughout those months, the guitar legend was in turmoil and was suffering from depressing feelings. Clapton’s life appeared to be falling apart as he was split between a mistress he detested and a wife who despised him as a result of their relationship. According to reports, the star attempted to put an end to it all by downing an entire bottle of Valium. When he awoke, however, he looked to have had no effect other than the fact that he was completely sober.

Clapton Started To Change

As Conor’s due date drew closer, though, Clapton, according to Norman, began to brighten. He even transported Del Santo to London, ostensibly in order to fulfill her request that the child be born in the United Kingdom, according to reports. A cesarean section was performed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, later that day, with the rocker present. Del Santo then sent the boy to Italy, where Clapton would pay him a weekly visit until he reached the age of majority.

The Boy Changed His Life

Clapton’s life altered dramatically after becoming a father, but there were a few things that kept the same throughout the process. He was still an alcoholic, for example, despite the fact that he didn’t drink in front of Conor or around him. When it was actually Clapton’s son who was suffering from “white-knuckle sobriety,” Norman claims that Clapton would immediately hand the boy back to Del Santo – and then he’d supposedly pound the bottle of vodka with both hands.

Too Much In Australia

This practice lasted for more than a year for Clapton, culminating in a tour of Australia in the fall of 1987, when he was at his peak. Clapton’s binge drinking, combined with a demanding work schedule, had reached a breaking point, as he confessed in an interview in which he couldn’t stop trembling. He couldn’t function properly without a drink, but he couldn’t function properly with one. He was in a tight place, and he was barely making ends meet in terms of his musical endeavors. If this trend continues, the entire world will undoubtedly implode.

Realization

The incident occurred on one specific day in Australia, when Clapton was holed up in his hotel room with no one else around. He was alone with his thoughts, his pain, and his misery, and he was alone with himself. It was at this point that he knew he needed to return to the hospital and get therapy, not just for himself but also for Conor. He wished to have a healthy relationship with his son, one in which they could bond, rather than one in which he was constantly thinking about when he might have his next alcoholic beverage.

Return To Hazelden

It had a sense of déjà vu in the sense of him returning to combat his alcoholic problems, but in other respects it was completely different from the first go-round. Whereas he might have had some reservations about what had led him there the first time, he was more than aware of what had brought him there this time. He had attempted, but eventually failed, to manage his drinking habits. He required assistance as well as a significant adjustment in his life.

A Different Type Of Counselor

Whereas the last time, counselors appeared to be a little reverent in their treatment of him, this time was different. After first developing a deep bond with the musician, he adopted an unsympathetic approach in the following months. It threw him for a loop, but it ultimately provided him with the tools he needed to be able to see himself as others saw him. It wasn’t attractive, and it prompted Clapton to attempt to stick to the method as best he could.

Stunted Progress

The first month had passed, and Clapton could sense in himself that he was simply waiting for days to pass, and that he was ultimately gaining nothing from the experience. He had a panic attack one day, at the conclusion of his visit, when he realized that nothing had changed and that he was going to return to the real world, unprepared and in danger. Despite the fact that he had no idea who he was pleading to for rescue, it was the end of his rope for him at that point.

Epiphany

Immediately following his submission to a higher power, he became aware that something had altered within him. No matter if it was a shift in mindset or anything else, he had now discovered a location where he could turn to and feel confident in himself. In the years since, he has never missed a single day of praying, on his knees, every morning and every evening, in order to express thanks for what he has, as well as his sobriety.

Hazelden Departure

Clapton arrived at Lori and Conor’s home in Hurtwood just in time for the holidays after leaving Hazelden. He was well aware that there was a great deal of work to be done in terms of cleaning up some of the devastations he had created; Lori was really supportive throughout the entire process, as was everyone else. Despite the uncertainty surrounding their current situation, she remained patient, and things appeared to be improving for the first time in a long time.

Lunch With Pattie

Clapton had determined that the first person he needed to see was, without a doubt, his ex-girlfriend, Pattie, and so he scheduled a meeting with her. He needed to know whether there was still a glimmer of hope, even if it was just a friendship, after they had broken up on the worst possible circumstances. The two of them got together for lunch and had a terrific time. Clapton had no ill will against him, and the two of them were able to communicate openly and equitably; he was grateful that they had the opportunity to do so.

Work Commitments

Keeping occupied is always a good thing for recovering addicts, and Clapton had to get to work right once on a project that had begun in January 1987 and had to be completed by the end of the year. Eric had promised to perform six gigs at the Royal Albert Hall in London over the course of six consecutive nights. He performed with Nathan East and Greg Phillinganes from the August sessions, as well as Steve Ferrone and Phil Collins on drums and Mark Knopfler on guitar, among other musicians. The performances were so well-received that they became a regular feature.

Bonding With Conor

Clapton’s fondest recollections of those first few years of sobriety were those spent with his son and his mother. It was the closest Eric has ever come to experiencing “normal” He was head over heels in love with Conor, a charming young man with long blond hair and brown eyes. Clapton alluded to old photographs of his Uncle Adrian when he was a child, and he appeared to be an exact match for his nephew Conor. Conor was a curious, lovely, and kind little kid who was walking by the time he was one year old.

Parenting Didn’t Come Naturally

Despite his many accomplishments in the music industry, Clapton did not naturally gravitate toward the role of a parent. The truth is that he was just a man-child trying to take care of a baby. Lori took the initiative in the parenting role, and she did an outstanding job. Eric used to sit back and watch Conor because he had no idea what he was doing as a father. He was an exceptionally brilliant boy, and he was adored by every member of his family.

New York Visit

As time went on, Eric grew more at ease in Conor’s company and began to believe that this comfort was reciprocated by the man. He made plans to pay Lori a visit in New York City, where she and her new partner had discussed the possibility of purchasing an apartment. One evening, he picked Conor up and drove him to the circus by himself, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He enjoyed himself on the night out despite being both apprehensive and enthusiastic. Elephants were Conor’s favorite animals and he couldn’t stop himself from talking about them. It was the first time Clapton felt like he was truly grasping the concept of parenting. He was prepared to take the initiative.

A Tragic Morning

Tragically, tragedy struck just as Eric was about to get into the groove of fatherhood. Lori and Conor had agreed to be picked up by Eric, who would then take them to the zoo for lunch. The phone rang at 11 a.m., which was early in the morning. When Lori called, she was in tears, shouting that Conor had passed away. Lori informed Eric that Conor had died after falling out of a window. Eric remained motionless for a moment. He was the first to arrive.

It Was True

In fact, Eric didn’t even have to enter the room before he realized what had transpired. By just talking to the police and physicians, it was determined that a janitor had temporarily left a window open for cleaning, and that Conor had bolted out the window and plunged to the ground below. Eric was in a trance and found himself taking care of people while he was dazed.

Funeral

Following the identification of the deceased at the morgue, the duo went to London with the casket in order to bury it in the capital. While the burial was taking place, the Italians sobbed in the background. Clapton remained in a stupor and a state of shock for the rest of the night. This occurred a few days before his 46th birthday, on a chilly and dreary day in the middle of winter. He was in shambles.
